I just received this comment, dudes.

New comment on your post #1172 “Sexual Harassment: My Training Program”

Author : John McIntire

Comment: Your lack of professionalism is disappointing and sets a poor example for others in the HR profession.

You can see all comments on this post here.

Wow, John, thanks for reading my blog. Two thoughts:

  1. Your lack of credibility on my level of professionalism is disappointing. You set a poor example for other people who comment on my blog.
  2. Who asked you?

    Rock on! Love the response! What didn’t he get about Punk Rock HR!?

    Presumably, your $1000 a day diversity course (that’s waaay too cheap btw) will include a section on not bullying people who don’t share the same viewpoint as you… ;-)

    Laurie, I think John might be right on this one. HR doesn’t need honesty and truthful assesment, what it needs is the ability to plan and manage a company wide cupcake day, or the sweet skill to craft a mesage with the most possible words, yet containing the least possible substance. F people that don’t get you, U Rule!

    Somehow I’m reminded of the angry letters Dave Barry would receive after one of his Mr. Grammar Person columns, with the writers indignant that he would represent himself as a language expert and yet include so much incorrect information on language in the column.

    Sigh.

    Typical HRish comment and a great example of those in our profession who think much too highly of themselves.

    On the flip, I happen to believe the total opposite of this comment. People like Laurie are leading a revolution in our industry. And with any revolution you are always going to have resistance from those who cling to the status quo like a nice warm blanky.

    I thought John McIntire was dead.

    @Breanne Aw shucks! UR awesome.

    @Jonathan I think it’s a bullying technique to come to my website and insult me without provocation. You gotta problem with me? Man up and send me some *constructive* feedback, yo.

    @Jimmy I’m busy coordinating a take your dog to work day.

    @Perrik Good old Dave Barry! Ah….

    @Bryan You always nail it. I didn’t even think this guy could be in HR.

    @Lance No, I think that’s John McEnroe.

  8. 9 Jonathan October 23, 2008 at 11:17 am

    I think Bryan’s got it – maybe the guy is Director of Paper clips or something equally important

    laurie,

    I am extremely disappointed in your reaction to this message. You need to leatn to take feedback and criticism constructively.

    Here are some tips to help with this:

    1) As part of your HR professional development, you need to give 360 degree feedback to a couple of super-margaritas at Dos Caminos before you leave Vegas.

    2. As part of your semi-professional but not highly paid blogging career, you need to consider going to John McIntire’s blog (if he has one) and give him feedback on the content he produces.

    3. In the spirit of bad movies, you could always consider using some judicious editing of J’s comment to turn him into an endorser of your Sexual Harrassment program:

    There’s a lot of anger out on the internet.

  11. 12 HR Maven October 23, 2008 at 7:34 pm

    OMG this is masterful.

    Hey John McIntire dude, you DON’T speak for the HR profession (unless I have died or missed the memo).

    And Laurie,your use STFU in a blog post is magnificent. ANYONE working in HR daily wants to tell someone to STFU. And when it involves having to tell stupid people what NOT to do, it’s even more irritating.

    If you are a disappointment, I feel like I am in GOOD company. Keep it going.

    Here’s my problem: He just now makes a comment after a few months you posted it. He probably hit the “I’m Felling Lucky” in Google and was disappointed of the result.

  13. 14 Laurie October 23, 2008 at 8:13 pm

    @Tracy “I’m feeling lucky — about sexual harassment.” I love it.

  14. 15 Laurie October 24, 2008 at 2:44 am

    @Jonathan Director of Red Staplers

    @Michael Oh boy, I gave Mark Stelzner plenty of feedback over a blueberry pomegranate margarita at Dos Caminos. Very constructive. Too constructive, maybe. :)

    @Rachel Can’t we all just get along?

    @HR Maven Thank you. You are now my sales & marketing pro.

    Laurie and I had a meeting of Tourette’s Anonymous over lunch. We can really work ourselves up about this HR crap! :)
